Hygiene Elementary is a STEAM focus school that emphasizes curriculum and learning in sciences, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Each year the entire school takes on a full integration of STEAM learning through HawkAIR. During our HawkAIR event, we pick a new destination each year to “travel to” as we transform our building and our learning through deep, engaging experiences.
This year we also have an out of this world celebration. On March 2nd, 2016, our intrepid explorers at Hygiene travelled to Pluto for Hawk Air. This was our first big STEAM event and included some amazing Design Challenges for how we might build a colony on Pluto. Why is this significant now? Because if we had actually left for Pluto on that date, we would be arriving in September of this year. On September 3rd we will be celebrating this event by opening our Pluto Time Capsule. All are welcome to attend our afternoon assembly that will feature some of our former students and Pluto themed presentations.
